Drill Bit Technology
Hughes Christensen’s
sets the standard in drill-bit technology for the oil, gas, and
geothermal industries. Hughes Christensen product lines include the Tricone® roller cone bits, fixed cutter (diamond) bits. Computerized design, testing labs, and state-of-the-art manufacturing allow Hughes Christensen to develop and produce drill bits that deliver optimum performance in every application.
Roller Cone Bits
Hughes
Christensen’s roller cone bits include design features to obtain service
in high temperatures (greater than 250° F [121° C] ), and in
abrasive environments. The GTX, ATMGT and MAXGT lines of roller cone bearing
seals, compensators and lubricants developed to produce extended life and maximum performance in the most hostile downhole environments. Gauge enhanced cutting structures reduce bit wear inhighly abrasive
formations. Other bit modifications available to further enhance performance in high rpm applications and high bottom hole temperatures include:
-
Improved hardfacing, wear/stabilization pads and
shirttail carbide or diamond pacs
-
Metal face bearing seals (ATMGT and MAXGT)
-
Gauge trimmers (pads) to minimize cone shell
erosion and extend bit life.
Our high temperature PDC drilling
and coring bits are designed to optimize drilling performance in temperature ranges and formation types associated with high temperature environments.

The metal seals used on and MAXGT series Hughes
Christensen bits improve
performance in high
temperatures.
