Navi-Drill
High temperature Navi-Drill motors can be configured for air drilling and for fluid drilling in high temperature environments. Temperature ratings of the power section are for standard elastomeric formulations 130°C (265° F) and with special high temperature elastomer 160°C (320°F). The new X-treme power sections allow further temperature increases up to 160°C (320°F) with standard and 190°C (375°F) for high temperature elastomers. In all high temperature environments special precaution is taken allowing power sections to sustain even higher temperature ranges. Special motor configurations are available for 2 3/8" to 12 3/4" tool size to increase temperature compatibility further while still maintaining high reliability. High Temperature Motor
An F-type Navi-Drill® Mach 1P directional motor configured for high temperature operation drilled 8.52hole to 8,578 ft (2,614.7 in Japan′s Kackonda Field. For high temperature operation, the motor stator was fabricated of a specially manufactured, high-temperature compound, and the motor was fitted with a crossover by-pass valve, facilitating circulation to minimize the risk of o-ring failure. The rubber sleeve in the motor u-joint section was replaced with a metal sleeve. In preparation for the high temperature run, bearing and rotor/stator clearances were measured and recorded. The BHA included an orienting stabilizer sub, Slimhole MWD, spiral drill collar and jars with flex-joint. The planned wellpath called for an azimuth turn of 20-to-30 degrees to the right. Bottom hole temperature was recorded at 350° F (177° C). During the run, when MWD temperature readings indicated BHA temperatures of 320° F (160° C), water was circulated to obtain a bottom hole temperature within 250° F (121° C) to 257° F (125° C). An ROP of 4.8 m/hr was achieved.

Following the run, bearing and rotor/stator specifications were again measured and recorded and found to have negligible wear. Fit clearances were found to be within normal operating specifications, and the motor was certified for reuse without refurbishment.
