CS-300™ Open Hole Gravel Pack System

Application

The Model CS-300™ Openhole Gravel Pack System is for openhole gravel pack completions and ensures that hole stability is maintained during screen deployment, packer setting and gravel packing by allowing hydrostatic pressure to be maintained on the filter cake at all times. When acid or inflate ECP’s™ (External Casing Packers) immediately following an openhole gravel pack is required, the standard CS™ Crossover Tool can be replaced with the CS-AP™ Crossover Tool.

Additional Information

For most openholes drilled in unconsolidated formations, a gravel pack is the preferred completion option. By filling the annulus between the screen and openhole with specially sized, high permeability gravel pack sand, the wellbore is stabilized to control production of formation sand and protect the screen from plugging or erosion. When performed with proper procedures and tools, openhole gravel packs can be highly productive and long lasting completions. To maximize success, the openhole must be drilled with a specialized drill-in fluid. The well must then be thoroughly and rigorously cleaned by circulating completion brine and selected pills at high rates leaving only the filter cake intact on the borehole walls. The screen assembly is then deployed below the patented CS-300™ Openhole Gravel Pack System. Openhole gravel packing is applicable to short and long intervals (up to several thousand feet) with well deviations ranging from vertical to horizontal. Baker Hiughes’ proprietary design software is used to ensure the gravel pack is successfully placed in the well.

1989 Hart’s E&P Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation

Baker Oil Tools received the Hart’s E&P Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation for the Horizontal Well gravel pack system in 1989. The award is given for the world’s best new tools and techniques for finding, drilling, and producing oil and gas wells. Entries are judged on innovation of concept or design; ability to solve an actual oilfield problem; and potential for improving profitability, safety or efficiency.
