MZ™ Multi-zone Gravel Pack System

Application

The MZ™ Multi-zone Gravel Pack System is a one-trip system optimized to provide the ability to gravel pack or frac pack multiple intervals with a single trip into the wellbore, while maintaining positive zonal isolation during the treatment process.

Advantages

  • The crossover tool incorporates a hydraulically actuated indicator that permits the service tool string to be positioned in critical positions with set-down weight and allows large treatments to be carried out without fear of the tool moving out of position due to temperature cooling. Once the lower zone is completed, the crossover tool is positioned in the next zone, tested and the treatment repeated for that interval. This process is carried out until all zones have been treated.

Additional Information

Following the perforating of all zones, the MZ™ Assembly is run into the well, placed across the interval and landed into the sump packer. The top gravel pack packer is then set and tested and the service tools released. The service tools are then positioned in the bottom-most isolation packer that is set by applying pressure, tested and then repositioned in the lower zone circulating position where the gravel pack treatment is carried out. This can be performed as a Circulating Pack, High Rate H2O-PAQSM, H2O-FRAQSM or full hydraulic fracturing.

1989 Hart’s E&P Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation

Baker Oil Tools received the Hart’s E&P Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation for the Horizontal Well gravel pack system in 1989. The award is given for the world’s best new tools and techniques for finding, drilling, and producing oil and gas wells. Entries are judged on innovation of concept or design; ability to solve an actual oilfield problem; and potential for improving profitability, safety or efficiency.
