Liner Systems

Liner is casing that is run to the bottom of the wellbore, but does not go all the way to surface, and is typically hung off at some point in the wellbore using a liner hanger. Baker Hughes Liner Hanger Systems provide the tools necessary to complete flawless completions with liner.

  • Float Equipment – Baker Hughes Insert Float Equipment is installed in liner casing strings.
  • Hanger Packers – Baker Hughes liner hanger/packers provide a complete liner hanger system for cemented liner applications. External moving parts can be rotationally locked to the body, preventing backoff of threaded outer components and damage to the hydraulic seals if extensive rotation of the liner is required to reach bottom. With cement placed and the packer set, excess cement can be reversed out without exposing pressure-sensitive formations to excessive pressures.

  • Liner Packers – In completions using liners, the liner top is sealed off with either cement, or a liner top packer. Baker Hughes liner top packers provide a more reliable seal than cement. Liner top packers provide a mechanical seal at the top of the liner, and provide the same functionality as a setting sleeve.

  • Liner Setting Sleeves – Liner setting sleeves are part of a series of setting tools that provide the physical attachment between running string and liners. The liner setting sleeve or liner top packer is run in conjunction with a liner setting tool. Together, they support the weight of the liner, allow liner top packer setting or rotation of liner and provide a reliable releasing mechanism to detach the running string.
  • Liner Setting Tools, Accessories and Packoffs – Liner setting tools and accessories are part of a series of setting tools that provide the physical attachment between running string and liners.
  • Liner Tieback Equipment – Baker Hughes liner tieback equipment is suitable for reentry applications by allowing existing wells to be deepened or sidetracked rather than drilling new wells from surface.
  • Mechanical Liner Hangers – Baker Hughes liner hangers are used to “hang” liner in an existing casing. It also supports the liner load, prevents the liner from going into compression and anchors into the wellbore with slips. Liner hangers may be actuated mechanically or hydraulically.
  • Plug Systems – When doing a cement job, a finite amount of cement is pumped down with displacement fluid. A plug must be used to separate the displacement fluid from the cement. In some instances a plug is pumped ahead of the cement and behind the cement (double plug system).
  • Surface Cementing Equipment – Baker Hughes surface cementing equipment encompasses and accommodates plug-dropping heads, cementing heads, ball–dropping subs, flag subs, swivels, pump–down plugs and setting balls.
