Greater efficiency
Quantec′s diamond volume management (DVM)
design philosophy increases mechanical and hydraulic efficiency for
faster drilling and longer section lengths. Based on DVM, these
ultrastable, light-set bits increase drilling efficiency without
compromising bit and BHA stability.

Drilling time reduced 35%
Interbedded sandstones and shales,
very high mud weights, and overburden pressures led to high
confining pressures in a Pinedale, Wyoming, anticline slimhole
interval. Operators have been using five-bladed PDC bits from
various competitors for drilling at the bottom of S-type wells. One
operator chose 6-in. Quantec Q405 and Q505, which drilled the
slimhole interval 72 hr faster than the average offsets. This was a
35% reduction in drilling time for a $114,000 saving on a single
well. In a situation where the operator drills one well per month,
this was nearly a $1.4 million saving over the course of a year per
rig.
