Drilling
Hole Opening Technology
The ability to drill cement and associated downhole float
equipment with eccentric tools has become increasingly important in
deep water Gulf of Mexico drilling. The extra trip required by
conventional eccentric tools can add significant cost to a well.
Hughes Christensen recently introduced a modified Steerable
Ream While Drilling (DOSRWD) system that has demonstrated the ability to successfully drill-out all types of float equipment. HCC's DOSRWD features a field exchangeable pilot bit so the tool can utilize
standard Tricone or PDC to optimize performance in a particular
formation.
Together, our Ream While Drilling (RWD)
tool, Steerable Ream While Drilling (DOSRWD)
tool and the Slimhole Technology Ream While Drilling (STRWD)
tool comprise a system designed for specific hole opening applications
at a fraction of the costs and none of the risks associated with
bi-center bits and conventional under reamers. |
