Deepwater Production

Flow Assurance

The low temperatures and high pressures encountered in deepwater facilities, risers, subsea wellheads and flowlines can lead to the formation of hydrates, paraffin waxes and asphaltenes that can block flow of produced oil. Such blockages are costly because they interrupt production and lead to expensive remedial operations to clear lines. Deepwater operators are using flow assurance methods to prevent these problems.

Baker Petrolite has responded to the growing demand for improved flow assurance by bringing deepwater producers the FATHOM™ Certified Chemicals program. Baker Petrolite's engineering analysis and modeling capabilities enable BPC to design and apply chemical treatment programs to assist flow in deepwater flowlines and production facilities.

Hydrates which form at low tempematures and high pressures in the presents of hydrocarbon and water can not only plug and interupt production, but can also cause major health and enviroment hazzards. If inhibited with methonal or glycol the dosages can be up to 100 times that of a LDHI. Increased up front capital is also required with storage facilities, chemical injection lines, shipping, regeneration equipment, etc. costing millions.
