Baker Oil Tools Sand Control

Sand Control

From world-record horizontal gravel packs and the award-winning EQUALIZER™ Production Management System to best-in-class offshore fracturing and stimulation services, Baker Hughes provides sand-control solutions that optimize reservoir productivity, minimize risk, and ensure operational excellence.

Baker’s reservoir optimization processes exceed conventional sand control options in enhancing wellbore stability while optimizing productivity from unconsolidated formations. Baker Hughes has been the world leader in gravel pack solutions for nearly 30 years and in soft formation pumping services for over 20 years.

Many of the world's oil and gas wells produce from unconsolidated sandstones that produce formation sand with reservoir fluids. Problems that are associated with sand production include plugging of perforation tunnels, sanding up of the production interval, accumulation in surface separators and potential failure of downhole and surface equipment from erosion. These problems can pose serious economic and safety risks. Soft formation wells require specialized sand control completion practices to allow hydrocarbons to be produced without formation sand.

While it is important to effectively prevent sand production, it is equally important to do so in a way that does not hinder a well’s productivity. This dual goal drives Baker Hughes' ongoing contributions to the design and development of completion solutions for unconsolidated formations. Regardless of what is required, operators know they can depend on Baker Hughes for solutions that are best in class.

  • EQUALIZERTM Technology - The EQUALIZERTM flow regulation system provides sand control, delays water or gas coning and reduces annular flow.
  • Fluid Loss Control Devices - Fluid loss control devices provide a temporary barrier to control the loss of completion fluid to the formation.
  • Gravel Pack Systems - Gravel pack tools use technology that reduces completion time and expense and provides the ability to gravel pack or frac pack multiple intervals with a single trip into the wellbore, while maintaining positive zonal isolation during the treatment process.Major investments of resources, both capital and technological, support an ongoing commitment to expand offshore and deepwater capabilities.
  • Reservoir Optimized Completions - Baker’s reservoir optimization processes exceed conventional sand control options in enhancing wellbore stability while optimizing productivity from unconsolidated formations.
  • Screen Systems - Screen systems enable improved sand retention and plugging resistance along with increased inflow area, and minimize erosion issues associated with high velocities.
  • Teleperf Technology - Teleperf™ technology uses telescoping devices filled with sand-control media to connect the reservoir face to the production liner without perforating and provide full-bore sand control without gravel packing.
  • Tubing Conveyed Perforating - Tubing-conveyed perforating involves providing perforating capabilities, delivered via the wellbore’s tubing.
