Low Molecular Weight Polyalphaolefins - VYBAR™ Polymers

Baker Hughes produces the VYBAR™ Polymer series of unsaturated, highly branched alphaolefin polymers. Molecular weights range from 1500 to 5000, with polydispersity values between 2 and 18. Physical properties vary considerably across the VYBAR Polymers product family since the alphaolefin can be polymerized into finished form as a liquid, grease, or solid.

One of the most unique characteristics of VYBAR Polymers is their ability to bind oil, thereby increasing the hardness and opacity of paraffin wax. VYBAR Polymers are also very flexible and provide excellent lubricity properties. Through applied technology, Baker Hughes has the ability to customize the softening point of solid polyalphaolefins and the viscosity of liquid ones, making a wide range of products possible. An air oxidation or maleic anhydride grafting process further enhances the functionality of these polymers.
