Drill Bit Technology

We introduced the two-cone drill bit, which launched operations in 1909. Twenty-four years later, we introduced the Tricone™ three-cone drill bit, still the industry standard with its numerous enhancements. In 1976, we introduced PDC bits, which also have been continually upgraded.

We've invested in more R& D, received more patents, and have more drill bit firsts than any other manufacturer. Our technology drills faster, stays in longer, and lowers your cost-per-foot drilled.

EZCase System Records Longest Run in Eastern Hemisphere
The EZCase™ casing bit system recently achieved the longest casing-while-drilling run in a 12 1/4-inch hole in the eastern hemisphere. The 12 1/4-inch EZC404 drilled 2,559 ft from surface in 71 hours with an on-bottom ROPof 36 ft/hr for Northern Petroleum Netherlands. The casing was successfully cemented through the EZCase shoe without difficulty; the EZCase bit was drilled out in 1.5 hours with a Genesis™ HC506XD0 drillout bit. The PDC bit drilled One Fast Run™ to section TD at 6,808 ft, drilling a total of 4,249 ft in The Netherlands’ first casing-while-drilling run.
