Overview - Triple Combo Service

INTEQ's Triple Combo Service combines our Multiple Propagation Resistivity (MPR®) measurement with our new LithoTrak service. Our MPR system delivers the most comprehensive evaluation of the formation, borehole and near borehole environment possible with any propagation resistivity tool whilst our LithoTrak system combines reliable neutron porosity and formation density logs with faster sampling rates and an innovative downhole acquisition process. The combined sets of data produce resistivity logs comparable to the industry's benchmark multi-array wireline resistivity tools along with the industry's most accurate formation porosity measurements, fully-compensated formation bulk density, photoelectric cross section data, acoustic standoff and tri-axial borehole caliper measurements.

The proven Multiple Propagation Resistivity system features a compensated four transmitter, two receiver array using two operating frequencies and fully digital electronics to produce the highest quality real-time quantitative propagation resistivity measurements in both conventional and slim holes. The standard 2 MHz resistivities offer excellent vertical resolution for defining thin beds and fluid contacts while the 400 kHz frequency investigates more deeply into the formation for reservoir navigation and better estimates of true resistivity (Rt).

In all, the MPR tool gathers 32 raw measurements to deliver eight quantitative phase difference and attenuation resistivities and four fixed depth of investigation curves. The resulting eight resistivities support detailed quantitative and petrophysical analysis. The new, fully digital electronics and rugged, integral antenna design afford significant increases in reliability and vast accuracy improvements over previous generation propagation resistivity tools.

The LithoTrak service offers numerous advantages over previous generation LWD systems. These include :
  • Faster sampling rates
  • New acquisition method
  • Enhanced vertical resolution
  • 3-axis caliper
  • Increased reliability
The LithoTrak service incorporates the Optimized Rotational Density (ORD™) tool and the Caliper Corrected Neutron (CCN™) tool.

Our advanced ORD tool design incorporates acoustic transducers to facilitate a new, proprietary standoff binning processing technique for optimum density measurements. Three acoustic transducers positioned near the sub's detectors combine to measure borehole diameter. In addition, the transducer aligned with the density detectors provides standoff measurements for our patented density processing technique.

The CCN sub delivers fully-characterized, compensated neutron porosity measurements using advanced lithium6 scintillation detectors. These highly-efficient detectors deliver superior statistical precision and allow operators to gather quality samples at high penetration rates and under rough drilling conditions.

When the CCN sub is combined with the ORD sub, the tools's borehole corrections are further refined with a tri-axial acoustic caliper.

Additional geosteering control is achieved by placing an inclinometer and gamma ray scintillation detector below the MPR, positioning these measurements as close to the bit as possible. This provides improved well path control in horizontal applications. Standard directional measurements of azimuth, inclination, and tool face orientation are furnished by the directional sensor package above the MPR sub and sonde.

Service Application

The combination of MPR® and LithoTrak to form our Triple Combo Service is used for conventional petrophysical applications. This system delivers wireline-quality measurements to detect hydrocarbons and identify bed boundaries for geosteering and stratigraphic positioning applications. Our MPR system provides superior thin-bed definition, true resistivity measurements whilst LithoTrak provides bulk density measurements, lithology identification and determination of reservoir fluid saturations. The LithoTrak neutron porosity and bulk density combine to identify gas/oil and gas/water contacts. The Modular Advanced Pressure (MAP™) sub can be added to provide a full suite of qualitative and quantitative FE measurements to optimize both reservoir navigation and drilling performance. LithoTrak services can also be combined with our innovative AutoTrak® Rotary Closed Loop System to provide quantitative FE measurements.

Our collar-based Triple Combo Service is available in 6 ¾" and 8 ¼" sizes whilst for slimhole applications our 4 ¾" LithoTrak services tool is available and can be combined with our 4 ¾" MPR.
