Overview - Ultra Slim Multiple Propagation Resistivity
|
| |
| INTEQ's MPR® tools set the industry standard in propagation resistivity logging. The slimhole designed Multiple Propagation Resistivity system features a compensated two transmitter, two receiver array using two operating frequencies and fully digital electronics to produce the highest quality real-time quantitative propagation resistivity measurements in both conventional and slim holes.
The two transmitter, two receiver array provides a total of 16 raw measurements to deliver four quantitative phase difference and attenuation resistivities and four quantitative depth of investigation curves using both 2 MHz and 400 kHz frequencies. The resulting four resistivities support detailed petrophysical analysis. The new, fully digital electronics and rugged, integral antenna design afford significant increases in reliability and vast accuracy improvements over previous generation propagation resistivity tools.
The 2 MHz operating frequency of the USMPR tool offers improved vertical resolution for defining thin beds and bed boundaries, whilst the 400 kHz frequency enables deeper formation investigation, permitting improved bed boundary avoidance while navigating within the reservoir and providing greater immunity to environmental and formation effects. These measurements provide a comprehensive evaluation of the formation, borehole and near borehole environment.
Additional geosteering control is provided by placing an inclinometer and gamma ray scintillation detector below the MPR, positioning these measurements as close to the bit as possible. This provides improved well path control in horizontal applications. Standard directional measurements of azimuth, inclination, and tool face orientation are furnished by the directional sensor package above the MPR sub and sonde.
The USMPR system addresses environmental effects using the most comprehensive data set available from any MWD resistivity tool. One of the biggest challenges for any resistivity tool is minimizing environmental effects to better measure a formation's true resistivity. These environmental effects include eccentricity, anisotropy and fluid invasion. Although it is easy to recognize the presence of environmental effects with a multiple depth resistivity tool, it is not quite as easy to differentiate between the various effects in order to apply the proper environmental corrections. The USMPR system combines and compares the raw phase and amplitude-based measurements with the four compensated resistivities to identify multiple environmental effects. Once these effects are identified and differentiated from one another, the proper corrections can be applied to the data set for improved log quality and better estimates of Rt.
The 3 1/8" Ultra Slim MPR tool provides a unique MWD platform for intermediate radius re-entry applications in boreholes as small as 3 ¾". This platform combines state-of-the-art propagation resistivity with the proven architecture of the probe-based NaviTrak® MWD system.
Flex subs above and below the USMPR sub allow the negotiation of slimhole curvatures up to 58° per 100 ft while sliding and 20° per 100 ft while rotating. The USMPR tool's modularity also permits easy rigsite upgrade from the basic NaviTrak or NaviGamma® service.
Service Application The system delivers wireline-quality measurements to detect hydrocarbons and identify bed boundaries for geosteering and stratigraphic positioning applications. Our Ultra Slim Multiple Propagation Resistivity system provides superior thin-bed definition and true resistivity measurements. |
